MEETING NET
ZERO TARGETS

As Darwin Group manage the entire process – from concept to completion, we have direct interventions in place to decarbonise our construction approach.

REDUCING
ENVIRONMENTAL
IMPACT

Improving environmental performance is central to our volumetric modular approach . Delivering a sustainable clinical estate that helps address climate change and improves social wellbeing, our advanced modular building technology creates highly airtight structures, achieving BREEAM and Passivhaus Principles. This presents significant opportunities to reduce carbon emissions and in-use energy requirements for the lifetime of our healthcare buildings, mitigating environmental impact for NHS estates.

CUTTING CARBON
IN CONSTRUCTION

Darwin Group believe that sustainability should be at the core of creating a modern clinical estate to help address climate change and the health emergency it brings. We integrate renewable energy solutions such as Air Source Heat Pump systems and Photovoltaics, into every design. As more than 60% of its carbon emissions occur in the supply chain, choosing the right partner is vital in realising net zero targets and achieving social value priorities.

BEST PRACTICE
STANDARDS

The leading environmental assessment method for buildings and communities. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and has become the measure used to describe a building’s environmental performance. This standard ensures that buildings are compliant when it comes to sustainable design, construction and operation. Darwin Group deliver highly sustainable healthcare buildings achieving BREEAM Principles.

SUPPORTING
WELLBEING

By improving social value through our approach to modern methods of construction, Darwin Group can help reduce health inequalities and drive better environmental performance. Delivering even more value from our products and services, Darwin Group’s comprehensive turnkey methods, supports environmental, economic and social wellbeing, to help the NHS not only improve patient care but enhance the quality of the built environment for the wider community.

DELIVERING
A NET ZERO NHS

Climate change threatens to disrupt the ability of the NHS to deliver high-quality care. In the most recent report, the carbon footprint of the NHS in England totalled 25·0 megatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, of which 62% came from its supply chain. In 2020 NHS England set out a road map towards the goal of making the NHS the first net zero health service in the world by 2045. Darwin Group is proudly supporting the NHS on this journey with our sustainable approach to construction.
