The challenge
When United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) identified the need for increased theatre capacity at Grantham and District Hospital to help reduce waiting times, it turned to Darwin Group.
The requirement was for two ultraclean theatres with a recovery ward, ancillary rooms and staff areas to increase capacity and reduce waiting times for patients.
Our solution
Using the very latest modular construction techniques, we were able to deliver two modular theatres, along with their associated preparation rooms, utility facilities. Also included was a staff area and a six-bed recovery ward with an ultraclean ventilation system.
Darwin Group also installed specialist medical equipment as part of the build, including digital screens which allow theatre teams from United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) to access real-time patient and diagnostic information.
Designed in collaboration with the clinical and estate teams from JPUH, the two theatre suites incorporate a number of innovative design features and advanced technological solutions. This ensures that the facility will offer real value for decades to come, as well as offering excellent working space and accommodation for clinicians and patients right now.
The programme was delivered on a 12-month timeline and increased available theatre capacity by 50% on the site.
